The county of Sokołów is situated in east Mazovia province. Similar to the neighbouring counties, it is a typical farming county with the majority of cereal crops, potatoes and production of milk and pig breeding, and in the Bug area – cattle. Forestland covers 21,4% of the total area. Part of the forest is located within the Bug Landscape Park, including part of Sterdyń, Ceranów and Kosów Lacki districts. It is an outstanding place to rest in-surrounded by landscape of the natural valley of the Bug River, rich plant communities and numerous protected and rare species of plant, animals and bird. Picturesque landscape attracts attention of every tourist searching for calm and peaceful atmosphere. Little peaceful villages are located picturesquely amongst woods, fields and meadows. Hospitable inhabitants offer accommodation in their houses. They can introduce you delicious meals of the regional cuisine. Values of the county are complemented by numerous monuments of architecture, i.e. castles, palaces and churches. The Radziwill, Ossolinski, Oginski families had their landed properties here. In total the county is composed of 9 self-goverend units-districts: Bielany, Ceranów, Jabłonna Lacka, Kosów Lacki, Repki, Sabnie, Sterdyń, district of Sokołów Podlaski, town of Sokołów Podlaski and town and district of Kosów Lacki. We are classified among poorly counties (54 people per sq. km), where the province average is 142. It is certainly a kind of advantage. First of all, it is an advantage for tourism, and in particular for people looking for calmness, contact with nature and unique landscape of the Bug area. Neighbourhood of Warsaw, good transport connections and system of roads can provide comfortable conditions even for summer and regular residents in the future. We would like to attract investors, create new work-posts for the local inhabitants. We would also like make use of the great potential still hideen in tourism, agriculture and processing industry. We wish to focus a greater exent on intensive use of farming and processing for the development of farming and food, milk, potato and wood processing through support of related industrial investment. In the future an important role in the county will be that of protection of precious natural values of the Bug valley, implementation of ecological farming in which we can also see new work-posts in professions that so far have not been present in our territory. We wish to improve water relations through land improvement and contructionn of the tank “Niewiadoma” on the Cetynia in the district of Sabnie and rain guns in the area recommended for biological (ecological) farming. We also wish to develop recreational functions in the Bug valley, observing the principles of environment protection and spatial order. We have big potential reserves of production area in many plants and reserves of developed land with all fittings. We wish to actively participate in finding and encouraging proper investors who would also take in performance of our main strategic lines and objectives. Sokołów Podlaski has at its disposal a well-developed system of educational, commercial and servicing institutions as well banks and institutions of extra-local significance that town to the name of “ institutional and commercial centre” providing service to the local people and to inhabitants of neighbouring districts and counties. The number of regional and state banks all types of financial institutions supporting any initiatives related to further development of the county is still increasing. The county of Sokołów Podlaski is also a region of Podlasie that is rich in historic monuments. Many unique wooden rural buildings richly ornamented around window frames, having the peculiar style and division of living quarters characteristic of Podlasie have survived until now. In many villages visitors can come across beautiful old wooden residences, palaces, Orthodox churches, churches and many mementos of the history of annexation, uprisings and wars. The county of Sokołów Podlaksi is worth visiting. You will certainly remember this meeting and be encouraged to return here many times. |
